These are Pommes. Mid-range fired porcelain with underglaze, glaze and hobby moss collars. The Pomme is a fruit. Fruits have multiple meanings. They are forbidden, nourishing, queer, they grow, they rot, they seed and grow again.

I Make Stuff

Erin Shafkind is an artist, writer and educator living in Seattle, WA. She studied art and earned a BA and teaching certificate at California State University, Humboldt and received an MFA from Lesley University’s College of Art and Design in Boston. She’s been teaching art in Seattle Public Schools since 1998. These days she hand-builds and throws on the pottery wheel using stoneware and porcelain clay bodies and occasionally works with earthenware clay bodies. She also writes about art and artists for national magazines and local galleries.
